David Rubin | Land Collective In The News
UC Berkeley’s Student Athlete High Performance Center was
reviewed by John King, architectural critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, in an article entitled, “Memorial
Stadium’s Big Game Showcase.” Undertaken while Partner and Co-Owner of
OLIN, David Rubin utilized landscape solutions to resolve architectural and
urban design challenges. In a collaborative effort with HNTB Los Angeles and
STUDIOS Architecture SF, the landscape team was able to meet the challenges of
the project: create greater connectivity within the southeast district by
linking the main campus to the stadium across Olmsted’s Piedmont Avenue,
preserve and enhance a delicate ecotone, and create a new campus sacred space
by defining the roof of the new structure as a landscape plaza while preserving
the character of a historic landmark, Memorial Stadium.
In Forbes, Thinktopia founder Patrick Hanlon, writes
about the value of design in contemporary American culture, from pop icons like
Coca-Cola, the iPhone, and Levis, to the positive impact design can have on
every segment of our society. In “USA:
The United States of Design?,” the author interviews Michael Bierut of
Pentagram, and David Rubin of David Rubin | LAND COLLECTIVE, along with Land Collective client, Matthew Gutwein,
President and CEO of Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County. In
collaboration with HOK Architects and an extended creative team, Eskenazi Hospital’s new campus and
commons was designed by Rubin while Partner and Co-Owner of OLIN, and at the
client’s request, David Rubin|Land Collective continues to advise and inform
the design of the project as it moves through construction.
